Introduction

My name is Therese Pedrera, I’m originally from the Philippines. I moved to London in 2017 and am currently living and working here. I have been working as a nurse for 10 years now and just recently, I gathered all my courage to leave my permanent job and became a full time agency theatre nurse which allowed me to have more control of my time. Hence, the traveling.

1. Why did you decide to become a digital nomad?

It has been my childhood dream to see the world. I haven’t thought that being a nurse would permit me to do such thing because of the work shifts. After a year of deciding what to do and weighing all the pros and cons, I finally made a resolution. Why not do both? In between work weeks, I squeeze in 1 week of traveling anywhere, ticking off my bucket list one at a time. Some people would say that this is not possible or would tell me that traveling alone is no fun at all but I say the opposite.

2. What are some lessons you’ve learned along your journey?

In travelling solo, I have learned to adapt in whatever situation I am in – being away from my comfort zone, independence, time management and a great deal of networking involved, having to get to know people from different race, cultures, and backgrounds. It is where I realised that there is a world outside of what I normally which is being inside the four walls of the hospital.

3. What resources do you use to stay productive?

When I’m travelling, I bring a book and my laptop with me. Since I opened my own limited company (business), I have been tracking down my salary and expenses together with the help of my accountant. This new job that I have is giving me more autonomy and independence which I am loving right now.

4) What are some of your favorite destinations so far?

My most favourite destination so far would be Switzerland. It is indeed Heaven on Earth!

5) What is one thing you dislike about this lifestyle?

One thing I dislike about this lifestyle is the airport transfers and waiting times, not to mention the delays and possible flight cancellations but overall, I am loving and enjoying every bit of it!
